In recognition of Eczema Awareness Month and National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month this October, Eau Thermale Avène is expanding its #AveneHope program to launch its Kindness Is Power initiative.
This new campaign is inspired by the story of Carissa Chilson, a tenacious and spirited 12-year-old Eczema patient from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.
Since infancy, Carissa has been battling Eczema, a serious inflammation of the skin that causes dryness, intense itching, redness, sleep deprivation and other adverse effects. Carissa's chronic flare-ups not only left her skin raw, extremely irritated and open to infection, they also impacted her self-esteem. Classmates taunted and teased her about her condition and even spread untrue rumors that she was infectious. Desperate for a solution, Carissa's family explored every option for treatment of her Eczema, from steroids to homeopathic remedies---all to no avail. Carissa continued to suffer, both physically and emotionally. There seemed to be little hope—until Carissa and her family discovered Avène.
Carissa's Journey to Avène
The ancient Sainte Odile Spring in the picturesque village of Avène in the South of France is the source of Avène Thermal Spring Water, renowned for over two centuries for its soothing and protective properties. The pure water is drawn directly from its source to treat a range of troubling skin conditions at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center, a premier dermatology facility uniquely dedicated to sensitive skin. It is here that Carissa at last found relief and a safe, non-drug alternative to control the symptoms of her Eczema. Over three consecutive years, Carissa received three-week dermatologist-supervised hydrotherapy sessions combined with educational programs designed to ensure the physical and psychological well-being of patients. Today the remarkable results of Carissa's treatments at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center are maintained with a regimen of Avène products at home. And Carissa's new-found self-confidence will carry her through to a bright future.
#AveneHope Launches Kindness Is Power
In honor of Carissa's courageous battle against both the physical and emotional trauma she endured, Avène expands its groundbreaking #AveneHope program to support the KIND Campaign, a multi-platform anti-bullying movement.100% of the proceeds* from the sale of a specially designed Kindness is Power #AveneHope tote bag, Avène Thermal Spring Water and a selection of Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing skin care products will be donated to benefit the KIND Campaign starting October 9th through October 31st, 2017.
Eczema can affect any part of the body, and all aspects of life for the patient's entire family. While there is no cure for Eczema, for the over 30 million Americans who suffer from this condition, symptoms can be managed with proper care. Each Avène XeraCalm A.D product directly targets the cause and source of itching, redness and irritation associated with skin prone to Eczema and is approved by the National Eczema Association for its efficiency and tolerance.
