Cutera introduces two new devices to its laser and energy-based device offerings: Juliet laser represents Cutera’s first entry into the women’s health segment of the aesthetics market; Secret RF is a new fractional radio frequency microneedling device that effectively remodels collagen, improves mild wrinkles, and diminishes scars. MedSpa revenues are growing at a double-digit pace since 2010, and younger generations seem to be driving the boom, a new American Med Spa Association (AmSpa) study shows. Researchers are developing an antibiotic patch that can bypass the gut bacteria and extend the useful lifespan of currently-available antibiotics. DermTech Canada, a licensee of DermTech, has received approval to market DermTech’s Pigmented Lesions Assay (PLA) and non-invasive biopsy kit for the detection of melanoma in Canada.

NRS: New Rosacea Classification; Pediatric Teledermatology; Bleach Baths

There’s a new standard classification and pathophysiology of rosacea from the National Rosacea Society. New evidence shows that virtual diagnosis of pediatric dermatologic conditions is feasible. New research suggests that water baths may be just as good as bleach baths for treating eczema. Researchers say they have discovered specific gene expression patterns in women who appear younger than their chronological age.

More than three-quarters of prospective patients are unaware of financing options, according to a recent survey by Zalea. FDA has accepted Ortho Dermatologic's New Drug Application for IDP-118, a combination halobetasol propionate and tazarotene lotion for topical treatment for plaque psoriasis. Janssen Biotech’s Stelara is now approved for the treatment of adolescents 12 years of age or older with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for phototherapy or systemic therapy. Janssen’s SIMPONI ARIA® cleared for the treatment of adults with active psoriatic arthritis or active ankylosing spondylitis. The FDA has green lighted the use of a small blunt tip cannula with Galderma's Restylane Silk for lip augmentation. Solta Medical’s new Thermage FLX System is now approved for smoothing skin on the face, eyes, and body. Cornell University researchers may be closer to understanding how accumulated genetic mutations in melanocytes lead to melanoma formation.

eRelevance Uncovers Marketing Truths, EADV Data, Primetime for Botox

The State of Aesthetic Healthcare Marketing 2017 from eRelevance shows that nearly 60 percent of aesthetic physicians say they either don’t see results from their marketing initiatives or aren’t able to measure results. Data presented at the annual meeting of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology support the role of Regeneron and Sanofi’s Dupixent, Lilly’s experimental JAK inhibitor Baricitinib, Novartis’ Cosentyx, Janssen’s Tremfya, and a new low-level blue and red light therapy face mask for acne vulgaris. Athlete and sports analyst Deion Sanders recently turned 50, and he's talking about the Botox Cosmetic treatment he received for the milestone.
