The new Obagi- C Rx System, a vitamin C-based skin care system, has seen two recent additions intended to address normal to oily skin. The C-Balancing Toner prepares the skin for optimal penetration of prescription products while thoroughly cleansing the skin, Obagi says. The C-Clarifying Serum is a patented formulation combining 10% professional strength Vitamin C with prescription strength 4% Hydroquinone to reduce melanocite activity. Both are available this month.
Rosacea Remedy Unveiled.
Rosacea patients may find relief of their disease with the recently unveiled Pyratine XR, a new compound that has been shown to relieve redness (erythema), soothe irritation, increase moisture, and repair damaged skin quickly and effectively, the maker says. According to Senetek, clinical studies have demonstrated that PyratineXR significantly reduces the appearance of lesions (papules and pustules), spider veins, and dark spots. In addition, PyratineXR improves skin texture. Pyratine XR is available as a lotion or cream for physician dispensing.

Patient compliance can be a challenge, but Ferndale Laboratories has started a program that it believes will improve patient compliance with its drugs. The Treatment Assurance Program can reduce co-pays for Ferndale brands through an instant rebate card that dermatologists can give to patients upon prescribing a Ferndale brand. Patients can use the card for unlimited refills and will not be subject to an activation process. Physicians can obtain the rebate cards by calling 1-877-352-6294.
Cellulite Pill Coming.
Containing a blend of fish oil, borage oil, grape seed extract, Ginkgo biloba, Gotu Kola Leaf and other natural ingredients, the Vascolarys Complex in CelluScience (Santica Research Labs, LLC) claims to reduce the appearance of cellulite from the inside out. According to Santica, CelluScience helps maintain strong microcirculation and promote healthy cell metabolism while delivering potent anti-oxidants to reduce cellulite. In clincial trials reported by the company, thigh circumference was reduced by an average of 3.6 percent up to 6.7 percent and abdomen circumference was reduced by an average of 4.1 percent up to 11.1 percent among patients taking the supplements. The products are currently available from GNC and will be available at retailers nationwide next month. A 15-day starter program (45 gel capsules) will retail for $64.99.
Oil-Free Haircare Available.
For patients with acne, rosacea, oily skin, or seborrhea, a new oil-free haircare line is available that is intended to help reduce the potential for exacerbating these conditions. RC freshHAIR is a dermatologist- created hair care line formulated to treat and prevent certain common dermatoses. FreshHair is the latest in the RC Dermatology line of skin care products.
