Juvéderm: Now Containing Lidocaine. Juvéderm XC, a new formulation of the dermal filler containing lidocaine, recently received FDA approval, Allergan announced. The new formulation numbs the treatment area within seconds, which potentially reduces the need for an additional anesthetic and offers a more comfortable injection experience for patients, Allergan said. The approval was based on a clinical trial in which 72 patients were followed for two weeks after treatment with either Juvéderm or Juvéderm XC in each nasolabial fold. Investigators reported that 93 percent of patients reported less pain when treated with the new formulation, compared to those treated with the nonlidocaine- containing formulation. In addition, the new formulation maintained a similar safety and efficacy profile to the original Juvéderm formulation.

In addition, it can accommodate the range of outdoor activities kids participate in; for example, it can be used in salt, fresh, or chlorinated water, the company says.

Other ingredients include Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, a hydrating emollient that provides vitamin E to the skin, and phytic acid, an exfoliating agent thought to be gentler than alpha hydroxy acids. The product will launch in May.
