New AAD/NPF Guidelines Address Care for Pediatric Psoriasis

November 5, 2019

Psoriasis affects approximately 1% of children, with onset most common during adolescence.

New guidelines from the American Academy of Dermatology and the National Psoriasis Foundation offer counsel on how to best manage psoriasis and its extracutaneous manifestations in children and adolescents.

The 2019 guidelines of care for the management and treatment of psoriasis in pediatric patients appear in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology

The guidelines provide recommendations for common clinical questions that arise among physicians, patients, and caregivers in psoriasis management. Evidence-based findings on triggers, emotional symptoms, common comorbidities in children, treatment options, and other best practices for pediatric patients are addressed. In addition, the guidelines emphasize the importance of a robust physician-patient-caregiver relationship to facilitate a collaborative decision-making model.
