The ODAC Dermatology, Aesthetic & Surgical Conference, in partnership with the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD), honored Joel L. Cohen, MD, with the 2022 Outstanding Leadership in Dermatology Education and Research Award. 

The award, which was presented at the ODAC conference held January 14-17 in Orlando, FL, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting scholarly research and education in the field of dermatology.

“Dr. Cohen is committed to researching the latest techniques in dermatology and sharing his results with his peers,” says Shelley Tanner, CEO and president of SanovaWorks, which produces the JDD and ODAC. “His tireless dedication to education and research is evident through his numerous publications and speaking engagements. He is a sought-after educator and researcher, and we are pleased to bestow this honor.”

“Dr. Cohen has given countless hours lecturing and has also made significant contributions to dermatology through his continued research,” said dermatologist and ODAC co-chair Susan H. Weinkle, MD. “He is well-deserving of this award. Congratulations to Dr. Cohen.”

Dr. Cohen, who is also a member of the Practical Dermatology® magazine editorial board, is fellowship-trained in Mohs surgery, lasers and cosmetic dermatology, and is the director of AboutSkin Dermatology and DermSurgery in the Denver area. The author of more than 276 articles and co-author of three academic textbooks, Dr. Cohen lectures regularly at both national and international meetings, and participates in numerous clinical trials. He is also an assistant professor of dermatology at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Cohen has received several awards including the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery’s Public Service, Traveling Mentorship & Teaching, and Excellence in Education awards.

The award recipient is nominated and chosen through the recommendation of a panel of senior national thought-leaders in dermatology, a committee of dermatology practitioners and several industry leaders.
