Skin of Color Seminar Series to Provide Latest Research and Practical Pearls for Dermatologic Treatment of Skin of Color

February 26, 2018

Now in its tenth year, the Skin of Color Seminar Series (SOCSS) will be the largest medical education event of 2018 dedicated to providing dermatologists with evidence-based research and practical pearls in treating skin of color, including patients with multiracial backgrounds. SOCSS, which will take place May 5 and 6 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square in New York, uses a didactic, case-based approach through lectures, hands-on-training, and live demonstrations. Series co-chairs and founders are dermatologists Andrew Alexis, MD and Eliot Battle, MD.

“This conference is like no other with all sessions specialized to the needs of patients with Fitzpatrick III-VI Skin Types,” said Dr. Battle. “With today’s diversifying population, it’s important for every dermatologist to know how skin conditions may present themselves differently in skin of color, and to know the most appropriate treatments so that every patient receives safe and effective care.”

The seminar will address a variety of cosmetic, medical and surgical dermatology topics. Up to 11.5 CE credits (AMA PRA Category 1™) can be earned. Updated for 2018, the agenda has several new sessions including:

  • “The Evaluation of the Aging Process Across Ethnic Variations” with Maritza Perez, MD
  • “The Skin Lightening Dilemma: A Candid Conversation with the Experts” (Panel discussion with Eliot Battle, MD; Seemal Desai, MD; and Valerie Callender, MD)
  • “Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Skin of Color: Crisis State” with Ted Rosen, MD
  • “The Masters Share: Aesthetic Treatment Pearls in Skin of Color Patients” (Panel discussion with Maritza Perez, MD; Heidi Waldorf, MD; and Eliot Battle, MD)

“SOCSS shares the latest breakthroughs in a small, intimate setting where attendees have direct access to the faculty, making for an engaging attendee experience,” said Dr. Battle. “Only 300 spots are available for this year’s event, so it’s important for dermatologists to register early.”

In addition to educational sessions, the conference will offer an exhibit hall featuring companies showcasing the latest innovations in dermatology, as well as a poster session.
