Results of a retrospective study conducted in the dermatology centers of five Italian universities, suggest that biologic therapy use by men has no negative impact on children they conceive. Findings suggest that conception during administration of biologic therapies is safe. (J Eur Acad Dermatol Venereol 2020 ePub)
The analysis included 32 male patients who fathered 38 children during biologic therapy and had received at least one administration of treatment prior to the time of conception. Thirty babies were conceived by men receiving anti-TNF agents, and eight were conceived by men receiving IL-12/23 or IL-17 drugs. All fathered healthy children with normal growth. Authors say the findings add to fertility and conception data in humans; most previous studies of men were in animal models.
