In the spirit of Skin Cancer Awareness Month, what’s your personal sun protection regimen?
“My sun protection regimen includes daily application of a mineral sunscreen (zinc and titanium) with at least SPF 30. I typically layer the sunblock cream with a mineral powder such as Colorescience. I also take the supplement Heliocare daily. This contains an antioxidant that strengthens your own skin’s protection. When I’m spending more time outdoors, I add a hat, sunglasses, and sun protective clothing.”
—Nancy Samolitis, MD
“Hats, hats, and more hats! I apply a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 70 and then find the cutest hat that I can squish into my purse or my suitcase that also carries an SPF label. I have Safari hats, I have beach hats…You name it, I’ve got a hat!”
—Ava Shamban, MD
In each edition of @Practical_Derm, the editorial team of Practical Dermatology® asks physician board members and other experts in the field a question on a timely subject.
