FDA Extends Deadline for Sunscreen Label Compliance

May 14, 2012

Sunscreen manufacturers have won a small victory from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which has extended the deadline for compliance with new labeling back to December 2013 for some companies. The industry pushed back on the agency, which ordered changes to sunscreens last summer with an original compliance deadline in June 2012 to make revisions. The FDA will now give large companies until December to comply; smaller companies will have until December 2013. While this extension could limit companies highlighting these changes during the busy sun-bathing summer months, the FDA still advises companies to release the new bottles as soon as they are ready.
