Psoriasis Genetic Map Explored by International Psoriasis Council

June 7, 2012

The International Psoriasis Council (IPC) is leading the effort to establish collaboration among leading geneticists and dermatologists to advance the understanding of the genetic basis of psoriasis. Their report in the British Journal of Dermatology's June edition outlines the remarkable progress achieved through the implementation of genome-wide association studies highlighting the key pathogenic pathways leading to psoriasis. The IPC now plans to conduct a joint scientific, laboratory, and patient-related study to better define the genetic architecture of psoriasis. The goal is to help design targeted therapies, the development of markers to monitor disease progression, and drug responsiveness to help the vast number of patients afflicted with this condition. The collaboration is expected to help bridge the genotype and phenotype of psoriasis. www.psoriasiscouncil.org
