Artefill Shows Efficacy for Atrophic Acne Scars: Data

06/24/2013

Recently reported data suggest that ArteFill dermal filler is an effective option to treat atrophic acne scars. Suneva Medical shared promising six-month results from its randomized, double-blinded, multi-center, controlled study that evaluated the safety and efficacy of ArteFill for the treatment of moderate to severe atrophic acne scars. At six months, 64.4% of subject receiving active treatment were rated as responders, compared to 32.6% of controls (p = 0005). To be counted as responders, subjects had to exhibit a two-point improvement on a four- point Acne Scar Response Scale (ASRS) for at least half of the scars treated—a 50 percent improvement rate.   OVer 130 subjects were enrolled in the study, with more than four scars of moderate-to-severe severity at baseline. Approximately 40% of subjects were male, and patients with Fitzpatrick V and VI made up approximately 25% of subjects in the study. Full results are expected to be published. Suneva is seeking FDA approval for an acne scar indication.
