Psoriasis Foundation Urges CMS to Halt Proposed Cuts to Phototherapy Reimbursement

08/15/2013

The National Psoriasis Foundation has stepped up efforts to halt the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) plan to cut reimbursement rates to phototherapy in the proposed CY 2014 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (PFS). According to the Foundation, if the proposed cuts pass, many physicians would be forced to stop administering phototherapy and close phototherapy clinics. The Foundation is recommending that dermatologists contact CMS during the comment period in order to urge the department to drop the proposed cuts and preserve phototherapy as a viable and cost-effective treatment option for patients with psoriasis and other dermatologic conditions. The comment period on the Medicare PFS closes on September 6, 2013.
