NPF and Boehringer Unite to Launch First GPP Awareness Day
Key Takeaways
NPF and Boehringer Ingelheim launched a campaign to educate and support individuals with generalized pustular psoriasis.
The initiative includes the first-ever GPP Awareness Day on Aug. 13, 2025, along with virtual support groups and updated resources.
Leaders emphasize reducing isolation and empowering patients to advocate for their needs.
The National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF), in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim, launched an educational campaign earlier this year to raise awareness of generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP), a rare and severe form of psoriasis also known as von Zumbusch psoriasis. Affecting approximately one in 10,000 Americans, GPP is characterized by unpredictable flares, pustules covering large areas of the body, and systemic symptoms including fever, shivers, fatigue, and joint pain.
“GPP is a challenging disease. In addition to delays in diagnosis and painful symptoms, we know that those who live with this rare form of psoriasis feel very alone,” said Leah M. Howard, JD, president and CEO of NPF. “We want to ensure that those living with GPP feel a sense of community.”
The campaign features updates to the NPF GPP Resource Center, new virtual support groups, and educational materials tailored for both patients and health care providers. A key milestone is the inaugural GPP Awareness Day on August 13, designed to foster visibility and support for those affected.
“Boehringer is honored to sponsor the education campaign and first-ever awareness day for generalized pustular psoriasis,” said Vicky Brown, Senior Vice President and Head of Immunology, Oncology and Eye Health at Boehringer Ingelheim. “By uniting as the community, we can drive awareness, and bring a sense of belonging to those living with GPP.”
The campaign underscores the importance of early recognition, patient advocacy, and community-building in addressing this heterogeneous and often misunderstood condition.
