AbbVie has announced 34 recipients of its 2026 AbbVie Immunology Scholarship, according to a news release, marking the 10th year of a program designed to support students living with chronic inflammatory diseases as they pursue higher education.
Since the scholarship launched in 2016, AbbVie reports investing more than $6 million and supporting more than 350 students across the United States. Recipients include students living with conditions relevant to dermatology and other immune-mediated specialties, including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, Crohn disease, ulcerative colitis, and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
Renewable Scholarships Expand Support for Students With Inflammatory Diseases
The 2026 class includes 3 new recipients and 31 returning recipients. AbbVie expanded the program in 2025 to offer larger, renewable awards of up to $20,000 per student. Selected students may renew their scholarship for up to 3 additional years or until earning a bachelor’s or graduate degree, whichever occurs first, provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements.
“With the demands of coursework, medical care and the cost of higher education, living with an immune-mediated disease can add significant challenges to a student's academic experience,” Jag Dosanjh, senior vice president of AbbVie and president of Immunology at AbbVie, said in the company announcement.
The scholarship is open to eligible students pursuing associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. According to AbbVie, recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, essays, and recommendation letters.
Applicants are not required to have used, currently use, or plan to use an AbbVie medication, and treatment history is not considered in the selection process.
“This award will significantly support my pursuit of ambitious academic goals and provide meaningful acknowledgment of the perseverance that has shaped my journey,” said second-year scholarship recipient Alessandro Ruiz, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, in the press release.
