The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (JDD)  awarded Adam Friedman, MD, FAAD with the Innovations in Residency Training Award at the recent Orlando Dermatology Aesthetic & Clinical Conference (ODAC) held in Miami. The award recognizes individuals who have fostered innovation and improvement in their residency programs, have increased emphasis on educational outcomes, and serve as exemplary role models for dermatology residents.

“Dr. Adam Friedman embodies the spirit of the award and more,” says Shelley Tanner, CEO and president of SanovaWorks, parent company of the JDD and ODAC. “He looks towards the future of dermatology and those who will carry it forward.”

Dr. Friedman is the residency program director and director of translational research at the George Washington University School of Medicine. He is also deputy chair of the American Academy of Dermatology’s Poster Task Force, senior editor of the Dermatology In-Review online workshop and cram pack, and director of the Oakstone Institute Dermatology Board Review. Dr. Friedman is also a member of the Practical Dermatology® Editorial Board.

“As medical director for ODAC, Dr. Friedman is instrumental in cultivating the educational program that is enjoyed by many residents across the nation each year,” says Ms. Tanner. Dr. Friedman has published more than 150 original articles and two textbooks. He also holds multiple patents and awards derived from his research.

The award recognizes Dr. Friedman in particular for the educational program he developed at the GWU School of Medicine, Krazy Kodachromes, which is a three-hour, image-based review series attended live by dermatology residents in Washington, DC, and viewed online by hundreds of residents on the JDD website, www.jddonline.com/krazy-kodachromes. The program is intended to capture the interactions between residents and faculty as they journey from image description to differential diagnosis, providing attendees and viewers with the organizational skill set to methodically approach image-based questions on the in-service and dermatology boards.

The Innovations in Residency Training Award given by the JDD is nominated and chosen through the recommendation of a panel of senior national thought-leaders in dermatology, a committee of dermatology residents and several industry leaders.
