Atopic Dermatitis Linked to Peripheral Vascular Disease
People with atopic dermatitis (AD) are almost twice as likely to develop peripheral vascular disease (PVD), Yale School of Medicine researchers found in a new study.
“Associated between atopic dermatitis and peripheral vascular disease: a cross-sectional study in the All of Us Research Program” was published in the Journal of the Academy of Dermatology. Using data from a National Institutes of Health database of more than 200,000 diverse American adults, the researchers found that PVD occurred in 11% of the 12,603 patients with AD vs 6.2% of patients without AD.
“Knowledge of this association may encourage research to improve our understanding of both AD and PVD in AD patients to promote optimal care,” the authors wrote.
