Deuruxolitinib Produces Progressive Hair Regrowth in Severe Alopecia Areata
Deuruxolitinib produced progressive and clinically meaningful scalp hair regrowth in patients with severe alopecia areata, according to “Deuruxolitinib Improves Scalp Hair Regrowth Over Time in Patients With Severe Alopecia Areata,” a poster by Natasha A. Mesinkovska, MD, PhD, et al presented as part of the “Best of the Best at Maui Derm” late breakers session at Maui Derm Hawaii 2026.
By Week 24, 31.0% and 40.3% of patients receiving deuruxolitinib 8 mg and 12 mg twice daily, respectively, achieved SALT ≤20, compared with less than 1% of placebo-treated patients.
“Significantly greater proportions of patients achieved clinically meaningful hair regrowth compared with placebo,” the authors noted.
Jason E. Hawkes, MD, said what stood out most was the progressive nature of the response.
“Patients keep getting better over time, and that’s critical in a disease like alopecia areata where expectations are understandably high,” he said. “Seeing these levels of scalp hair regrowth by Week 24 reinforces that JAK inhibition remains one of the most effective strategies we have for severe disease.”
