Marilyn Liang, MD is the new president of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology(SPD). She assumed the role during the 45thAnnual Meeting—held virtually—along with the new 2020-2021 executive committee members. 

Dr. Liang is joined by Patricia Treadwell, MD as President-Elect; Anita Haggstrom, MD as Vice President of Marketing and Communications; Amy Jo Nopper, MD as Vice President of Membership and Practice Management; and Anna Bruckner, MD as Vice President of Research. Jeff Sugarman, MD, PhD will transition into the role of Immediate Past-President.

Returning members of the board include Robert Sidbury, MD, Vice President of Finance and Administration; Sheilagh Maguiness, MD, Vice President of Education and Career Development; and Heather Brandling-Bennett, MD, Vice President of Workforce and Specialty Advocacy.

As President, Dr. Liang will lead the executive committee and a growing membership community to build career training and workforce programs, advance research opportunities, and continue to increase the number of board-certified pediatric dermatologists practicing across the country.

The SPD represents more than 1,200 physicians who specialize in the treatment and care of pediatric skin conditions.

“SPD has made significant strides in the past several years, laying the groundwork for our community to grow and create even greater opportunities ahead. I am honored to serve as President and look forward to working with the executive committee and SPD membership to improve our field, support new career opportunities, and provide world-class pediatric dermatology patient care,” says Dr. Liang, an Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School. She is Co-Director of the Vascular Anomalies Center and Attending Physician in the Dermatology Program at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Liang is board-certified in pediatric dermatology and dermatology.

SPD provides resources for patients and families about pediatric skin condition symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options. The organization advances the specialty through education and research, developing new means of treatment, and by providing advocacy in support of pediatric patients with skin, hair, and nail disorders.
