Omar A. Ibrahimi, MD, PhD, Wins ASDS Award for Outstanding Service

10/05/2017

Omar A. Ibrahimi, MD, PhD, of Stamford, Connecticut, took home the 2017 American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), Award for Outstanding Service.

The ASDS Award for Outstanding Service was inaugurated in 2012 to honor young, emerging leaders who have demonstrated commitment to the Society’s growth and success over a period of time. It is given annually to one member who has volunteered his or her time for multiple Society projects or initiatives. In an effort to recognize early-career volunteers, award recipients must be in their first 10 years as an ASDS member.

The award was presented to Dr. Ibrahimi during the 2017 ASDS Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Dr. Ibrahimi’s contribution to the Society has been steady. His Future Leaders Network project explored the perceptions of expertise in cutaneous procedures by the lay public and primary care physicians. His board-directed research project titled, “Perceptions of Expertise in Cutaneous Surgery” won a research grant award. Both were published in the Dermatologic Surgery journal. Dr. Ibrahimi’s work on facial injectables for anti-aging was seen in the bimonthly ASDS member publication, Currents.

A recipient of the Cutting Edge Research Grant and Young Investigators Writing Competition award programs, Dr. Ibrahimi serves on various ASDS committees including the Survey and Research Work Groups. He is the founding and medical director of the Connecticut Skin Institute treating all types of skin cancer, as well as medical and cosmetic issues involving the skin.

“Dr. Ibrahimi’s presence in the Society has been unmistakable over the last few years,” said ASDS President Lisa Donofrio, MD. “He has secured himself as a visionary at the forefront of cutting edge dermatology, and ASDS is proud to honor him with the 2017 Award for Outstanding Service.”
