Patrick J. Byrne Named President of AAFPRS for 2024-2025

Dr. Patrick J. Byrne, MD, MBA, has been installed as the 2024-2025 President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).

Dr. Byrne, the Enterprise Chief of the Cleveland Clinic Integrated Surgical Institute and Chair of the Head and Neck Surgery Department, expressed his gratitude in a press statement and shared a commitment to advancing the field.

“I am honored to lead this Academy, which has a longstanding history of collaboratively pursuing clinical excellence on behalf of patients across the nation and the world,” Dr. Byrne stated.

Dr. Byrne is internationally acclaimed for his contributions to microsurgical facial reconstruction and skin cancer management. He served as the Director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. While there, he directed the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship program and co-directed the Johns Hopkins Face Transplant Program. Dr. Byrne continues to serve as the co-Director of the Randolph B. Capone Cleft and Palate Program at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

Outgoing AAFPRS President Dr. Sherard A. Tatum praised Dr. Byrne’s deep expertise in complex facial surgeries and his leadership capabilities

“We are thrilled to have him and look forward to his leadership," he said in a press release. 

AAFPRS CEO Steve Jurich also welcomed Dr. Byrne. 

“Dr. Byrne’s profound expertise and strategic business acumen will simultaneously advance both the Academy and the field,” he added.
