Sciton Introduces diVa Laser for Vaginal Rejuvenation

06/21/2016

Sciton introduced diVa, a hybrid fractional laser (HFL) for the treatment of vaginal tissue.

Major life events like childbirth and menopause can cause changes in vaginal health. Excessive stretching of the vaginal tissue commonly happens from childbirth. Vaginal tissue may not fully recover to its pre-pregnancy state and through aging may lead to pelvic floor disorders. Menopause symptoms such as dryness, thinning and inflammation of the vaginal walls, and painful sex often lead women to seek out quality of life solutions. diVa helps give women control over their bodies again, empowering those treated to be as active as they like. With diVa, women feel more confident to return to the same level of athletic and intimate activity.

According to the company, diVa discreetly and comfortably addresses women's most intimate challenges, restoring self-assurance, vitality, and sensuality. Sciton recognizes that not all female health problems are the same anddiVa gives physicians more treatment options. For example, procedures can be customized for pre-menopausal women who need a different treatment than post-menopausal women.

Utilizing Sciton's  HALO dual fractionated laser technology, diVa delivers both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to the same microscopic treatment zone, allowing for highly customizable procedures. The first laser deeply resurfaces the layers of the vaginal wall, facilitating replacement with brand new, healthy tissue, while the second laser heats the layers of the tissue, which further triggers an inflammatory response to promote healthy cellular activity in the skin.

diVa is completely automated. It uses technology called high precision automation (HPA) where the physician simply inserts the strengthened quartz dilator and presses on a footswitch. The guidance system does everything precisely unlike prior generations or competing systems which are manual and subject to operator error. Additionally, with the touch of a button, options for laser delivery of 90 degree and 180 degrees angles can be delivered without changing the handpiece for added customization.

"With the addition of diVa, we have a new solution to improve self-esteem and quality of life for our patients," says Johnny J. Peet, MD, FACOG, diVa investigator. "So many of our patients can benefit from this type of treatment. I am addressing intimate issues such as painful intercourse or dryness with a real solution. They are now coming forward, being treated and are ecstatic about the results."

Treatment Protocol
diVa's design allows for comfortable, and generally fast and easy treatments for both the provider and the patient. Three treatments are suggested, spaced 30 days apart, with one annual treatment to maintain results.

"The diVa laser is awesome," states Jennifer Walden, MD, PLLC. "I have actually had the diVa procedure done and can say it works. I've given birth to twins so had some of these issues, so I got two treatments. Patients usually need two-three treatments spaced about a month apart.  Also it only takes three minutes and didn't hurt, so you can get in and out of the doctor's office pretty quickly."

Generally speaking, women can return to their normal activities immediately, though, they should avoid intercourse for up to 48 hours. Overall, this makes the treatment more realistic for those with active lifestyles.

diVa is available on the JOULE platform, which offers multiple modules to treat a wide range of conditions.
