06/24/2026

Key Takeaways

  • Skin Cancer Champions received two Bronze Awards in the Spring 2026 Digital Health Awards from the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC).
  • The awards recognized the community’s patient education portal and its “Living With” webinar series for patients and caregivers affected by non-melanoma skin cancers.
  • The organization continues to expand educational resources, patient programming, and peer-to-peer support initiatives for individuals navigating non-melanoma skin cancer diagnoses.

Skin Cancer Champions, an online community dedicated to supporting patients and caregivers affected by non-melanoma skin cancers, has received two Bronze Awards in the Spring 2026 Digital Health Awards, presented by the Health Information Resource Center (HIRC).

The awards recognize the organization’s efforts to provide education, connection, and support for individuals navigating non-melanoma skin cancer diagnoses. One Bronze Award was presented in the Web-based Digital Health Portal, Patient Education category. A second Bronze Award recognized an installment of the organization’s “Living With” webinar series, which provides a platform for patients to share personal experiences and connect with others facing similar challenges.

Non-melanoma skin cancer remains the most common cancer in the United States, and Skin Cancer Champions was established to address gaps in patient education and support. The community offers disease-specific discussion forums, educational resources, and opportunities for patients and caregivers to engage with peers and experts.

Patient Education and Support Remain Central to Mission

“Reflecting on the progress made since its inception, when we launched Skin Cancer Champions two years ago, our goal was to improve the journey for those affected by non-melanoma skin cancer. It continues to be incredibly rewarding to hear from patients and their caregivers that they feel informed, connected, and supported,” said Emily S. Ruiz, MD, MPH, FAAD, founder of Skin Cancer Champions and dermatologist and Mohs surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. “Being recognized across two categories tells us we are successfully elevating the impact and importance of this community.”

The organization expanded its digital presence in October 2025 with the launch of a free public resource platform and enhanced live programming, including patient panels and webinars focused on diagnosis, treatment, clinical trials, and long-term surveillance.

“At Skin Cancer Champions, our mission is to support, inform, and connect individuals navigating non-melanoma skin cancers,” said Noah Ayertey, community manager at Skin Cancer Champions. “These awards demonstrate the impact of our efforts and reinforce why accessible education, advocacy, and connection are so important for patients and caregivers.”
