The shades were supported by SafeSun, Inc. and an AAD Shade Structure Grant, sponsored by Dr. John Strasswimmer

Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse, Inc. (AVDA) in Delray Beach, FL dedicated its new shade structure at the Casa Vegso Residential Campus last month. The structure was funded by an American Academy of Dermatology Shade Structure Grant and SafeSun, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of malignant melanoma and other life-threatening forms of cancer of the skin.

Delray Beach dermatologist, John Strasswimmer, MD, PhD, FAAD sponsored AVDA’s grant application. Dr. Strasswimmer attended the ceremony and spoke about the importance of sun protection.  Mojgan Hosseinipour, DO, FAAD, who has joined the Delray Beach dermatology office location, was also present.

AVDA also hosted members of its Board of Directors, supporters of the project, as well as a few of AVDA’s SASSY Sisters and Band of Brothers.

La Roche-Posay USA donated products for use by the women served at the AVDA shelter.

Pam O’Brien, AVDA’s President & CEO, thanked Fran Nachlas and Katy Luciano from SafeSun for their funding of the project as well as their commitment to other local Sun Shade Projects in Palm Beach County.

The Shade Structure Grant Program is part of the AAD’s SPOT Skin Cancer campaign to reduce the incidence of skin cancer by educating the public about effective skin cancer prevention tips.
