The impact of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis on social and personal interactions can be extensive, results of a new survey from Sun Pharma confirm. In fact, 44 percent of respondents said that they often or sometimes feel humiliated by the appearance of psoriasis. More than a quarter (28 percent) of affected individuals say they have been the victims of bullying, and 30 percent say they have faced discrimination.

The survey, from the makers of Ilumya (tildrakizumab-asmn), finds that two-thirds of those affected by psoriasis say that their symptoms challenge them from doing what matters most in their lives.

Responses reveal that just over half of respondents reported avoiding social situations (53 percent) or avoiding intimacy (52 percent). A similar percentage (52 percent) can’t bear for someone to touch their skin. Among those affected by psoriasis, 24 percent of affected individuals report significant feelings of inadequacy and discomfort so intense that they avoid emotional and physical intimacy. Sometimes these feelings result in the termination of relationship. 

Despite therapeutic advancements, many patients with psoriasis continue to experience psoriasis symptoms. A majority ofpeople surveyed say they face flare ups (70 percent) or constant flaking (66 percent) and itching (63 percent) that affects their everyday lives. Forty-four percent of respondents say they are overwhelmed by their treatment options, and 48 percent want help considering their treatment options.
