Key Takeaways

  • ZORYVE cream 0.15% becomes the only branded topical to receive a strong AAD recommendation for adult mild to moderate AD, according to Arcutis.

  • The updated AAD guideline supports evidence-based care with new FDA-approved therapies.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has issued a strong recommendation for the use of ZORYVE® (roflumilast) cream 0.15% in adult patients with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (AD), according to updated guidelines released June 26.

This recommendation, according to the manufacturer, Arcutis, is based on extensive clinical data showing sustained efficacy, safety, and tolerability of the topical phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor. Arcutis noted ZORYVE is the only newly evaluated branded topical to receive a strong endorsement for adult AD in the AAD’s focused update.

“The AAD’s focused update highlights therapies that meet rigorous standards for efficacy, safety, and tolerability for adults living with AD,” said Patrick Burnett, MD, PhD, FAAD, chief medical officer at Arcutis, in a press release. “The inclusion of ZORYVE in these recommendations validates what healthcare professionals have already experienced with ZORYVE in their practice – a next-generation, steroid-free topical that delivers meaningful improvement for people with AD. It marks important progress in providing individuals with AD and their healthcare providers evidence-based choices that are suitable for all areas, including sensitive and hard-to-treat areas of the body.”

ZORYVE was approved by the FDA for the treatment of AD, plaque psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis, and demonstrated clinically meaningful improvements in pruritus and disease severity, as well as with low discontinuation rates. The cream is indicated for patients aged 6 years and older.
