Si-Nails, ISDIN

ISDIN recently launched Si-Nails to the US market. Si-Nails is a nail treatment that has been clinically proven to strengthen brittle nails by increasing thickness, density, and hydration of the nail and cuticle. Brittle nails, defined by weakness of the nail plate or loss of consistency that results in peeling and breakage, affect 27 percent of women. Apart from looking aesthetically unpleasant, they can be painful and very often affect self-perception. Factors such as stress, diet, external aggressions, or microorganisms can damage the health of nails leaving them brittle, soft, dull, and flaky. The Si-Nails formula includes key ingredients that promote keratin, silicon, and cuticle moisturization, and is delivered by an easy-to-use, one-click applicator pen. In as little as 14 days of daily application, nails will appear to be less rough, less brittle, denser, and more hydrated, improving overall nail health. ISDIN.com/us

With Marisa Garshick, MD, FAAD

In each issue, Practical Dermatology® magazine asks leading physicians about the new products that they are recommending to patients. This month, New York City dermatologist Marisa Garshick, MD, an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Weill-Cornell Medicine, discusses the merits of Good Science Beauty Hydrating Cream.

What is Good Science Beauty Hydrating Cream?

Marisa Garshick, MD: The Good Science Beauty Hydrating Cream utilizes the brand’s patented carrier technology, Good Silicon+, to deliver hyaluronic acid and marine omega-3 fatty acids to restore skin hydration and improve the natural skin barrier, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Good Silicon+ technology helps to deliver the ingredients where they need to be and releases them slowly over time. The actives include hyaluronic acid to help boost hydration in the skin and marine omega-3 fatty acids, rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which help to support the natural skin barrier and lock in moisture. The fatty acids are only released when they are in the skin, so there is no associated smell.

How do you suggest that your patients use this product?

Dr. Garshick: It can be used in the morning and in the evening as a moisturizing product or can be layered underneath a thicker facial moisturizing cream or lotion for those looking for an additional hydrating boost, particularly during the winter months. Since it is lightweight, patients can apply it easily underneath sunscreen and makeup without any problem. In general, I recommend cleansing the skin and then applying two pea-sized pumps of the Hydrating Cream onto a finger and then massaging that into the skin on the face and neck.

What type of results are your patients seeing with regular use?

Dr. Garshick: Patients like that it is a lightweight yet effective moisturizing product and that they see results. The natural plumping effect of hyaluronic acid gives them results early on. It is gentle enough to be used on the whole face, including underneath the eyes, which can also help to improve under-eye volume. By locking in moisture and improving the skin barrier, it helps to nourish the skin and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. At just 28 days, there was a 94 percent reduction in wrinkles in the under-eye area in a Company-sponsored study.

How does Good Science Beauty Hydrating Cream stand apart from other hydrators on the market?

Dr. Garshick: In dermatology, we often recognize that skincare products can be limited in efficacy due to the skin barrier limiting penetration of certain ingredients, and this product stands out as it works to overcome that challenge. Good Science Beauty products rely on the patented Good Silicon+ technology to deliver the ingredients to the place in the skin where they can be most effective and then releases them slowly over time. The Silicon+ technology dissolves into orthosilicic acid, a form of silicon that can be absorbed, which is also good for collagen production and skin health.

I love that this product takes a well-known ingredient in dermatology—hyaluronic acid—and utilizes it as a topical in a way that is effective, by optimizing delivery of the typically large hyaluronic acid molecule where it needs to be. We all know that hyaluronic acid is a great humectant as it attracts up to 1000x its weight in water, but it also is a very large molecule, which often limits its ability to penetrate the skin barrier. Utilizing the Good Silicon+ technology helps to deliver the hyaluronic acid where it needs to be. Additionally, in the GSB Hydrating Face Cream, hyaluronic acid is paired with marine omega-3 fatty acids, to help prolong the hydrating benefits by preventing the breakdown of hyaluronic acid and helping to maintain the skin’s natural barrier.
