RIP Clarisonic, Hello New Contenders
Long the darling of dermatologists, aestheticians, and consumers, Clarisonic is closing its doors this month for good. The iconic brand and its oscillating brush are bidding adieu to the beauty world with an everything-must-go sale, and devout users are stocking up in a mad frenzy.
“This difficult decision was made so that L’Oréal can focus its attention on its other core business offerings,” says a statement posted on the Clarisonic website. (L’Oréal acquired Clarisonic in 2011.)
At least one company is stepping forward to fill the void. “With the news of Clarisonic, we have received a lot of inquiries about our facial cleansing devices, the LUNA range, “ shares Sarah Jade Lacoursiere, Head of Business Development in the Professional Channel Division of FOREO North America. “To help Clarisonic fans, we’ve created an offer for those looking to switch. Those who sign-up will receive a $39 credit towards a LUNA product.” There’s more information at foreo.com.
The Clarisonic device is a legend, and the Luna range has a lot to offer. The home beauty device category is also growing and does offer some other hot, effective products for a range of skin and aesthetic conditions.
Here, Cosmetic Surgery Forum faculty members share their picks for best home devices, some of which may help fill the void left by Clarisonic.
TOP PICK: NuFace Trinity
“My favorite home device is the NuFace. The Trinity is a wonderful at-home device for rejuvenation and one of the most popular for my patients who want a boost to their in-office treatments. It has several attachments for LED, infrared, and microcurrent and has a travel-sized option available. “

TOP PICK: NEWA Wrinkle Reduction Device and PMD Pro Personal Microdermabrasion Device
“NEWA Wrinkle Reduction Device uses 3DEEP Technology Radiofrequency that delivers controlled energy into the dermis and does so safely, which results in collagen production. The result is firmer, less wrinkled and tighter, lifted skin.
PMD Pro Personal Microdermabrasion Device is for exfoliation of the skin using aluminum oxide crystals, which are the same used in office microdermabrasion machines. These crystals are on spinning discs that are combined with vacuum to provide excellent exfoliation. There are four levels of exfoliating discs and two speeds. One is for normal skin, which is faster with greater intensity, while the other is slower with lower intensity for sensitive skin types.”

TOP PICK: Revian Red all LED cap
“I recommend Revian Red all LED cap to use daily for 10 minutes for men and women suffering from androgenetic alopecia. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study on men and women, ages 18-65 with pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia), participants who were treated with the red light therapy had an average of 26.3 more hairs per cm² compared to those who wore a similar cap but did not have light therapy after 16 weeks (n=18). Subjects treated with placebo continued to lose hair over the duration of the study given the severity of pattern hair loss enrolled into the study.”

CSF is committed to providing a meaningful and safe experience for participants. In lieu of a live event in 2020, we will host sessions over the next 12 months offering the same type of collegial and frank discussions that CSF attendees have come to expect.
It is so very important to continue to learn, interact, and grow, even during the Covid-19 pandemic. We will only offer sessions that make sense and are compelling as we realize that your time is valuable. Stay tuned.
Our team is looking ahead with excitement to December 1 – 4, 2021 in Nashville, TN at the JW Marriott, when we hope to be together again in person.
