Galderma Moves to Differentiate Their Two New HA Fillers From The Fray
With a growing number of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers available and even more in the pike, Galderma is highlighting how their two newest fillers --Restylane Refyne and Restylane Defyne --stand out from the crowd.
In a word: flexibility. They flex as you smile, frown or scowl for a more natural look and feel. The fillers inherent flexibility is due to XpresHAn (pronounced ex-ˈspre-shən) technology.
Both Refyne and Defyne are approved for the treatment of nasolabial folds. (Defyne is for deeper lines and folds.) Results may last up to 12 months. While new to the US, Restylane Refyne and Defyne have been used in Europe under the name Emervel since 2010.
“If I am looking to inject the lower face, I need a product that can stretch and come back and stretch and come back. I’m smiling, I’m chewing. I’m moving this area a lot,” says Whitney Bowe, MD, a New York City dermatologist at a media launch event that took place at at the Nestle Skin Health SHIELD (Skin Health Investigation, Education and Longevity Development) Center in Manhattan.
At the interactive #Xpresyourself event, beauty reporters and bloggers visited various stations that encouraged everyday expressions – puckering up lips to apply lipstick, laughing, relaxing during hand massages and smelling various enticing (eucalyptus) and unpleasant aromas (vinegar).
This new-to-the-US filler technology will also change things up for injectors, says New York City plastic surgeon Sachin Shridharani, MD. “It’s not just static photography anymore, now we will need to take photos in motion to optimize outcomes,” she says.
Galderma is currently conducting three ongoing Phase 4 clinical studies to investigate the effects of Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne as patients conduct everyday expressions.
The Restylane family of products also includes Restylane®, Restylane-L®, Restylane® Lyft with Lidocaine and Restylane® Silk.
