What is Isdin’s Melaclear Advanced?

Claire Wolinsky, MD: Isdin’s Melaclear Advanced is a pigment-correcting gel-like serum with a nice fragrance. Actives include tranexamic acid, niacinamide, and Spot Corrector Complex, a patented blend of exfoliating acids and a tyrosinase inhibitor, and licorice root. The tranexamic acid and Spot Corrector Complex work together to brighten and correct while the niacinamide and licorice root soothe and hydrate skin. Together, these ingredients can address stubborn pigmentation across all skin types.

How does Isdin’s Melaclear Advanced stand out from other pigment correctors?

Dr. Wolinsky: Pigment is a huge market. There is a long list of patients coming in with sunspots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Hydroquinone is still the gold standard for hyperpigmentation, but some dermatologists steer away from it due to risks. After a couple of months of hydroquinone use, pigmentation comes back.

Melaclear Advanced hits the induction stage of melanin production. It provides great results, and there is no risk of rebound pigmentation. The tyrosinase inhibitor blocks tyrosinase, which is responsible for the first step in melanin production. The packaging is recyclable and refillable. How do you tell patients to use Isdin’s Melaclear Advanced?

Dr. Wolinsky: I tell my patients to use it twice a day, but if their skin gets dry, they can use it once a day and will still see benefits.

Dr. Wolinsky: My patients are seeing visible improvements as early as 2 weeks and dramatic results by 12 weeks including improved radiance, skin tone, and texture, plus a reduction of dark spots, discoloration, hyperpigmentation, and photodamage.

What procedures does Isdin’s Melaclear Advanced complement?

Dr. Wolinsky: Melaclear Advanced is an ideal at-home complement to chemical peels and non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation. I suggest patients layer it on top of vitamin C serum with a retinoid but carefully as there could be a cumulative irritation. A broad-spectrum, high-SPF sunscreen like Eryfotona Actinica or Ageless should be applied last.
