Dermatology Needs You: Why We All Need to be Involved
It has been a pleasure to serve as the American Academy of Dermatology’s Vice President for the last year. Getting involved in leadership is part of the fabric of dermatology. We like to be involved, we like to direct traffic, and even more so, it’s important to be an advocate for the specialty, not just for your patients, not just for your colleagues, but for the promotion of the practice of medicine and making sure we stand strong together.
I think the role I had this year—and the roles of those who follow me and were here before me—will help reinforce why leadership has to come from all of us. I think we all have our inner channels that can be leaders—I think it’s time for all of us to step forward to do our best to stand together with dermatology.
As I said last April when I had just started my term, I continue to encourage dermatologists in private practice and academic medicine to work together to maintain patient safety and to keep our visibility and relevance high. We also need to continue to encourage industry collaboration in support of medical education and new innovations, as well as patient safety and satisfaction.
