Great Expectations
Now in it’s ninth year, Cosmetic Surgery Forum 2017 promises to be bigger, brighter and better than ever before.
This three-day multi-specialty educational symposium covers the latest research, treatment and techniques in dermatology and cosmetic surgery and will take place from November 29 thtu December 2, 2017 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
This year’s meeting will, of course, feature the discourse and one-on-one interaction that attendees have come to expect, but it will also serve to help answer some very pressing and practical questions about modern day aesthetic surgery as well as introduce an international perspective to the mix, says Omaha, NE-based dermatologist Joel Schlessinger, MD, CSF Founder and Director.
“We have a focus on hair loss and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) where experts will seek to answer whether it actually works,” he says. “Attendees will gain the expertise of individuals who have experience with PRP—some good and some bad—to establish a consensus on this increasingly popular procedure,” he says.
“There will be discussions on the pros and cons of oral supplements as well as a discussion about the dos and don’ts of sunlight exposure including the need for vitamin D and other considerations,” Dr. Schlessinger says.
A presentation entitled “How do you make a filler do that?” will provide practical advice on how to get certain available fillers to lift, contour, plump, shape, and/or smooth. “It’s not always easy to make a filler do the job,” Dr. Schlessinger says.
To that end, “I’ll be presenting the new approach in facial volumetric structural rejuvenation with fillers because it’s not all about the latest fillers that are hitting the market, but how to use them successfully,” says New York City dermatologist and CSF faculty member Neil Sadick, MD. He will also be discussing his experience with the latest energy-based devices for body rejuvenation, with a particular emphasis on picosecond lasers and the new technology for non-invasive fat reduction. “I’ll also be discussing the latest research for what causes cellulite and how to treat it,” he says.
Brooke A Jackson, MD, an associate professor of dermatology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC, can’t wait to attend and catch up with colleagues. “CSF is one of my favorite meetings,” she says. “It is chock full of practical information, collegial and just plain fun. CSF is my derm family.”
On the International front, London dermatologist Nicholas J. Lowe, MB, ChB, MD, FRCP, FACP, is set to discuss how to choose and combine cannulas and needles for optimized filler delivery and the evolution of botulinum toxins for dermatology and aesthetic indications.
“Having heard many positive reviews about CSF, I am looking forward to being a faculty member this year,” Dr. Lowe tells Practical Dermatology® magazine. “I always find interesting differences in the approaches and availability of treatments between mainland Europe, the UK, and the USA. Having trained and worked in the different countries I will comment on how some of these treatments differ.“
Dubai dermatologist and CSF faculty member Hassan Galadari, MD agrees that an international perspective is key, as aesthetics is increasingly a global pursuit. “Beauty and cosmetic procedures have become a part of an ever expanding international practice,” he says. “Since there are cultural as well as ethnic differences, it is important that knowledge and experiences from all over the world be shared in some sort of forum. This meeting will also help create dialogue between the practicing cosmetic dermatologists and help shed some light on what the ‘other side of the world’ is doing.”
