Atopic dermatitis may present differently in patients with skin of color. One of the things that I often see that's missed when we are grading the severity of atopic dermatitis is hypopigmentation. Sometimes these patients are scratching and so intensely itchy that they're actually showing hypo- or depigmentation. [00:00:30] There's a loss of pigmentation due to inflammation and the trauma of scratching. This is a sign of very severe atopic dermatitis, but it's often overlooked both in clinic and on scales that help judge the severity of atopic dermatitis.
